Jamal Nation was created with the crazy idea that it should be just as easy and enjoyable for people of color to find beauty products as it is for everyone else. 

It wasn’t until the founder visited her best friend (and now COO),  who was living  in Australia, at the time that she decided to commit to her own “natural hair journey”.   Her friend had overcome not having any access to beauty supply stores, hairdressers or products and had YouTubed her way through her transition phase. So she figured well if she can do it here in Australia then  I can commit to this journey back in Chicago. Lies! Not only was it hard, it was damn near more difficult in the U.S. than it was in Australia. One day she ran out of conditioner and stopped in her local beauty supply store to purchase some. The store was dark, dingy and unorganized.  She became annoyed with the layout and the way the store looked and then to make matters worse an employee asked if she wanted to buy weave after she specifically said she was looking for conditioner. She thought to herself, “So, because I’m black the only thing I could possibly want to purchase in here is weave?” Don’t get us wrong #JamalNation love a good weave but that’s not what she asked for that day. She left, dry hair and all, and established Jamal Nation that week. 

Our founder set out on a journey to establish Jamal Nation from her own experiences and from the research she found on hundreds of products made by or made for people of color. She thought “Who better to create products for us to use than people who not only understand our needs but also have the same needs as I do?” The vision of Jamal Nation is to turn the customer experience around shopping for black beauty products on its head!
